Smell of Incense
THE SMELL OF INCENSE - A Curious Miscellany
These miraculous psych-progsters hail from Arendal, Norway. TSOI weave a rich and colourful musical tapestry incorporating influences by Canterbury Scene, British folk rock of the 60ies & 70ies, US acid/West Coast rock and the "Beautiful Balloon" sounds of 60ies California. They embellish their sound with viola, sitar, mellotron. This compilation, covering the time between 1992 and 2007, contains songs from early singles, compilations, demos, alternative mixes & a previously unreleased prog rock track from the sessions for their 3rd album "Of Ullages and Dottles". Includes cover versions of United States of America, 50 Foot Hose, Peanut Butter Conspiracy, Incredible String Band, West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, Folque, Merrell Fankhauser, and more. Lovely artwork by Gunhilde Langerud (who also did the cover of the other TSOI albums) and Bumble B. CD

TEMPLE OF L.I.B. - My name is magic
New project of Stefan Lienemann alias "Limo" (Fit & Limo, Discolor, Shiny Gnomes) starts where sadly demised Fit & Limo left off. Temple shifts the emphasis towards psychedelic, song-orientated, British 60ies folk rock, encompassing US West Coast vibes and wyrd folk. Meditative, tribalistic free-form mantras are highlighted by Tara Burke's (Fursaxa) mysterious, artful, otherwordly vocal appearances. Created was an excellent, trance-inducing acid folk album, reminiscent of Lamp of the Universe - "Earth Spirit & Sky", Incredible String Band, John Fahey. Guested also by Riff (Cosmic Gardeners, Riff & The Mad Hatters Garden Band Machine) and friends. First edition of 380 with paste-on 3-colour silkscreen print, handmade by the SG Art Department. LP

SMELL OF INCENSE - Through the Gates of Deeper Slumber
Three years after their debut album All Mimsy Were the Borogoves (on Colours, Norway) here is the 2nd full length from our favourite outfit from the southern coast of Norway. They shifted their musical direction forward to structures in the vein of early 70's progressive mellotronic space rock, while still keeping their traditional psychedelic influences. On side 1 TSOI take us into a floral fairyland: a 25-min. long conceptual suite in 5 parts, where the music ranges from meditative raga rock bliss with sitar to percussive trance rock elements to a meadow symphony and electronics in both starring and supporting role. Side 2: brilliant and breathtaking, richly instrumented and melodic spacy rock tracks tinged with influences of 60's Beautiful Balloon and the Canterbury Scene, superb vocal harmonies and a progressive/folk feel throughout. All lyrics by fantasy/romantic authors (Lord Dunsany, Mary Cicely Barker, Michael Moorcock etc.). Beautiful artwork by Gunnhilde Langerud (who also did the cover of All Mimsy) and Bumble B. LP
